It has been a season of mixed results so far for Valley United Tier 1 soccer teams, but the June 27-28 weekend was a positive one. Valley teams recorded six wins, a pair of draws and just two losses.

The U-16 boys’ team led the way with a pair of wins in Cape Breton: 6-2 June 27 and 5-0 June 28.

Jacob MacRae and Mitch Getson had two goals each in the 6-2 victory and Dillon Burgess and Cochrane Noseworthy-Smith added singles.

In the 5-0 win, Calum MacRae and Kirk Levy each scored twice. Getson added a single marker and Joe Benedict earned the shutout in goal. The wins improved the U-16 boys’ record to five wins and a loss.

In the first of two weekend games against Highland, the Valley U-14 girls scored a 7-0 victory June 27. Tessa Fudge scored four times. Emily Nickerson, Scarlett Smith and Julia Collins had one each, and Brianna Dolan earned the shutout.

On Sunday, June 28, Valley completed the weekend sweep with a 2-0 win to improve to 7-2-1 on the season. Fudge, with her 10th goal in 10 games this season, and Nicole Cormier had the goals. Dolan earned her second straight shutout and fifth of the season.

U-16 girls winners too

The U-16 girls were winners in their only weekend game, doubling Bedford 4-2 June 28. Julia Levernois had two goals for Valley and Shelby Lewis and

Jennifer Poirier one each as the U-16 girls improved to 3-1-1.

The U-18 girls split a pair of weekend games to stand at 3-3-1 at the end of June. Valley blanked Scotia 2-0 June 27, with Chantal S. Landry and Katelyn McCluskey scoring and Carrie Wood earning the shutout. The U-18 girls then dropped a 2-0 decision to Highland Floors Plus June 28.

The U-18 boys lost 5-1 to Halifax City June 28, with Jared Lord scoring his team’s lone goal, and fell 3-0 to Halifax County July 2 to drop to 1-5 on the season.

In senior action, the Valley Kings Arms senior men’s team continued a solid season, improving to 4-2-1 with a win and a draw.

On June 27, Kings Arms and Halifax County played to a 1-1 draw, with Matt French scoring the Valley goal. The following day, Devin Tetlow and Jake Munroe scored the goals in a 2-1 win over the Canada Games team.

The Valley senior women lost both their weekend games: 2-0 to Scotia June 26 and 6-0 to Dunbrack June 28 to fall to 1-7-1 on the season.

In Tier 2A action, the U-12 2A boys blanked Bedford 7-0, with Michael Ogilvie scoring three goals. William Warren, Chase Hancock, Riley Grant and Gabe Morgan had singles. Noah Shankel and Anthony Carradini shared the shutout.

The Valley United U-14 2A boys were blanked 2-0 by East Hants to fall to 1-5 on the season.
