A sea of purple T-shirts, tutus and tiaras could be seen for miles as 3,200 women completed the largest women’s 5K race in Canada June 7, with runners from small children to  septuagenarians crossing the line.

The third annual Sole Sisters Women’s Race in Burnside welcomed runners and walkers of all ages, shapes and sizes from coast-to-coast.

“Over 25 per cent of our Sole Sisters have never participated in a race before,” said Stacy Chesnutt, founder and director of Sole Sisters Women’s Race. “This one-of-a-kind event brings together families, friends, and colleagues to celebrate the strength of women.”

Proceeds from the all-fun event support Girls Gone Gazelle: a free running club for young girls focused on building confidence, knowledge of exercise and training for 5K.
