Two Hants County rugby teams, both undefeated this season, are set to do battle in Windsor today, May 6.

Game time is 5:30 p.m. at King's-Edgehill School.

Prior to the game, the Avon View Avalanche girls’ rugby team was 7-0 in regular season play.

The Avalanche are led this season by seasoned rugby performers Jaclyn Silver, Sam Lake, Jessie Evans, Kate Hirschfeld and Arianne Janes.

Last season, the Avalanche also finished undefeated, with a record of 10-0-1.

This year, they have their sights set on winning the provincial championship. In order for that chance, they will have to win the Western Zone Championship title.

Unlike last year, when King’s-Edgehill hosted the provincials and a second team was permitted to play from the Western Zone, only one team from Western Nova Scotia will be allowed to participate. Provincials are slated to take place at North Nova High School in New Glasgow June 6-7.

Despite their 10-0-1 regular season record in 2013, the Avalanche lost in a provincial semi-final game to the Horton High Griffins and missed out on playing for gold.

Following their game with KES on May 6, the Avalanche will head for P.E.I. to play in the 17th annual David Voye Memorial Rugby Tournament at Three Oaks High School. The Avalanche made it to the championship game of this tournament in 2012 but lost 19-0 to the host school in the final.
