Acadia’s basketball teams split their weekend series with visiting UPEI.
After winning both men’s and women’s games Friday night, the squads couldn’t repeat the accomplishment Saturday.
In the 6 p.m. game, the female Panthers snapped a five-game losing streak, outscoring the Axewomen 58-50. Abbey Duinker had 12 points and 15 rebounds to lead Acadia while Alexandra Berry had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Darcy Zinck scored 17 points and Laura Power had 16 to lead the Panthers.
UPEI improved to 5-7 while Acadia fall to 4-7. Both teams have 10 points.
The men’s 8 p.m. game was also an eight-point victory for the visitors. The Panthers defeated the Acadia Axemen 88-80 to end Acadia’s four-game winning streak. UPEI is now 6-6 and Acadia falls to 8-3.
Owen Klassen had 17 points to lead the Axemen while Anthony Sears and Shaquille Smith each added 15.
Wolfville’s Ellis Ffrench led the Panthers with 19 points and five assists; Deontay (D.J.) Smith added 17 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.
