Acadia missed out on an undefeated rugby season by seven points.
The Axewomen, ranked fifth in the country, lost 24-17 to sixth-place rival St. F. X. Saturday night on Raymond Field.
In front of a large and loud crowd, Acadia had the edge in the first half, leading 17-7 after 40 minutes. The X-Women tied it up in the second half and took the lead with 10 minutes left to play. Despite last minute pressure, the Axewomen couldn’t catch up.
Riley Kitchen, Maddie Fray and Allison Jordan had tries for Acadia and conference scoring champ Emilie Chiasson kicked one conversion before leaving the game with an injury in the first half.
Zahra Batool, Catherine MacKeigen, Danielle Robb and Lauren Agnew scored tries for St. F.X. Sabrina McDaid had two conversions.
Players of the game were Janna Slevinsky for the Axewomen and Zahra Batool for the X-Women.
Both teams finish the season with 7-1 records leading into the championships Oct. 26 and 27 at UPEI.
