Emilie Chiasson of Acadia’s women’s rugby team was voted the AUS and CIS Female Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 13.
Chiasson, a fourth-year science student from Ottawa, had 38 points on four tries and nine conversions for the Axewomen in an 88-5 victory on Oct. 12 at UPEI.
Those points allowed Chiasson to establish a new conference single-season scoring record with 172 points, shattering the old record of 145 points set last season by Magali Harvey of St. F.X. She is also Acadia’s all-time single season scoring leader.
Chiasson has one more chance to add to her record total on Oct. 19, when the CIS #5 Axewomen host #6 St. F.X. in the final regular season game for both teams.
Acadia won the first meeting of the season with St. F.X. 44-13 Sept. 6 in Antigonish, handing the X-women their first loss in 60 regular season games.
Chiasson was the fourth Acadia varsity athlete so far this season to be named AUS Player of the Week. She joined teammate Rachel Chapman, Cochrane Noseworthy-Smith of the soccer Axemen and Brett Backman of the football Axemen as AUS honorees. Backman also went on to be named CIS Player of the Week.
