NKEC, Central Kings medal at D2 girls' provincials

Kings County girls claimed two medals at D2 basketball provincials in Cambridge this weekend, but it was the Amherst Vikettes who took home a provincial banner

In the March 2 championship game, Northeast Kings Education Centre lost to Amherst 70-28, gaining a silver medal.  Scorers for NKEC included Chloe Corkum 12, Emily Stacey 7,  Katie Russell 4, Gena Harris 3  and Olivia Mahaney 2. Danielle Young led Amherst with 20, Natash Gouchie had 16 and Ashley MacEachern 13.

Earlier in the afternoon, Central Kings won the bronze medal match 69-38 over Hants East to claim their first girls’ provincial medal. Kennedy Curry led the Gators with 16, Mallorie Cornelius and Serena Dolan each added 13 and  Brooke Wagner had 12. On the Hants East side, Gaby McNeil and Hannah Landry each had 8 points.

West Kings finished their provincial weekend by losing the fifth-place game to Millwood 51-45. Emily Baltzer led WK with 15 points and Nicole Abrel had 12. Sam Edwards, 12, and Mary Gills, 9, were Millwood’s top scorers.
