The Horton D-1 boys’ basketball team will host the Mainland Athletic Conference (MAC) championship this weekend in Greenwich.

This year’s tournament will be a four-team event, with CEC, North Nova and Park View joining the host Griffins in the hunt for the MAC championship.

Action gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday with Horton meeting North Nova, followed by CEC and Park View at noon. The third-place game is set for 2:30 p.m., with the championship game following at 4:30.

The Griffins are also looking toward defending the Western Region championship. Horton hosts Park View Wednesday, Feb, 6 at 7 p.m. andYarmouth Thursday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. in a pair of games with regional implications.

According to co-coach Kevin Veinot, if Horton wins both these games it will finish first in the regional league and host a one-game, winner-take-all regional championship Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16.

The game time was yet to be determined as there is a good possibility the Horton girls will be hosting their regional championship the same day.

The Horton girls also play Park View Wednesday and Yarmouth Thursday, with the results of those games determining who will host their regional tournament. Horton, Avon View, Park View and Yarmouth are eligible to compete for the girls' regional banner.
