King’s-Edgehill School’s senior boys basketball team finished their annual tournament eight points shy of first place.
The home team was off to a good start from the opening game, defeating the Avon View Avalanche 78-50. Christian Lakes scored 34 points for KES, while Brett Pemberton added 21 to Avon View’s tally.
Next, Central Kings topped West Kings 70 to 49, with Kurt Getson and Nigel Simmons each contributing 18 points for the Gators. Christen Hill netted 20 points for West Kings.
In game three, KES beat Horton JV 83 to 58. Zack Lakes had 24 points for KES, while Jamie Smith earned 14 for Horton.
East Antigonish triumphed over West Kings 88-53 in the last game played Nov. 30. Raheem Johnson was the top scorer for East Antigonish with 28 points, and Christen Hill scored 17 for West Kings.
Horton JV came alive in their second game of the tournament, defeating Avon View 75-54 in an early morning matchup Dec. 1. Hunter Haas added 27 points to Horton’s total, while Brett Pemberton netted 17 for AVHS.
Central Kings ended King’s-Edgehill School’s winning streak, recording a 68-60 victory over the home team in the final. Christian Lakes scored 18 points for KES, and Nigel Simmons banked 27 for CK.
East Antigonish downed Horton JV 71-62 in the battle for third. Kendall Breen recorded 28 points against the Griffins, while Hunter Haas registered 19 points for Horton.
The Avalanche finished the tournament 0-3, losing their last game to West Kings 64 to 44. Brett Pemberton held on to his spot at the top of the Avalanche’s score sheet by getting 16 points past West Kings, leaving him trailing the opposition’s leading scorer, Griffin Reid, by one point.
