Valley Wildcats hockey
The Wildcats tried for a comeback in their first exhibition game of the junior A season, but were vanquished by the visiting Bearcats in overtime Aug. 30 at the Apple Dome.
Truro opened the scoring in the first period with goals from Jacob Smith and Colby Lanceleve and then held a 2-0 lead into the third frame.
Nick Bruce notched a power play goal, assisted by Jesse Hamer and Liam Rappoldt, to make it 2-1 eight minutes into the third.
The Bearcats stretched out the lead less than two minutes later with a goal from Jordan MacNaughton.
Valley managed to tie the game with two more goals from Hamer, unassisted, and Jeremy Butterworth, assisted by Rappoldt and Daniel Keays.
Truro sealed the deal just seconds into overtime with a goal from Brandon Pye to make it a 4-3 win for the visitors.
Johnny Foley, Smith, Shawn Corney, Denver Lynds and McNaughton had assists for the Bearcats.
The Wildcats were scheduled to play in Truro today, but the game was cancelled due to a facility issue. Valley is set to play next in Yarmouth Sept. 2 and then host the Mariners Sept. 4, 7 p.m. in Berwick.
