The Valley junior A Wildcats continue to make subtle alterations to their roster as they get ready for the 2014-2015 season.

On June 14, the Wildcats completed three minor deals, with two players joining the team and one departing.

First, the Wildcats traded forward Darcy Burley to Campbellton for an eighth-round draft pick in 2015 and future considerations. In 50 games with Valley this past season, Burley had three goals and eight assists.

The Wildcats also obtained forward Eric Chipman, a Bridgetown, Annapolis County native, from Miramichi to complete an earlier deal.

Chipman, a former Valley midget Wildcat, played 40 games for Miramichi this past season, scoring three goals and adding four assists.

“He’s a local player, a great talent, I had him for two years in midget and ultimately won a championship with him,” said Wildcats head coach Nick Greenough. “He’s a big piece of the puzzle of what we’re trying to accomplish here in the next two years.”

Chipman, he said, is a “real gritty player,” who is capable of playing all positions and was one of the “best penalty killers” in midget.

“We’re looking to him for a hard, physical game. If we’re up by one in the third, I know if I put him out on the ice, he’ll work hard to keep it that way.”

Valley also obtained forward Cole Livingston from Summerside to complete another earlier deal.

This past season, Livingston had four assists in seven games with Weeks Major Midgets, and a goal and five assists for the Pictou County junior B Scotians, plus a goal in five playoff games with the Scotians.
