The Yarmouth City Drug Store Female Bantam A Mariners have won the bantam A female provincial championship.

Yarmouth played against Antigonish in the March 30 championship game played in Pictou and won the game by a score of 2-0.

The game was scoreless until about four minutes left in the third period when Lauren Goudey (Saige Breton) scored to make it a 1-0 game. After Antigonish pulled their goalie with around two minutes left to try for the equalizer with the extra attacker while on the powerplay, Laura Legere (Angele LeBlanc) scored for the Mariners on the empty net.

Yarmouth had won three out of four games in the round robin to advance to the provincials championship game.

Their first game of the tournament was a 1-0 loss to Antigonish.

In Game 2 Yarmouth shut out Cape Breton West 2-0. Scoring were Payton Doucette (Lauren Symonds, Saige Breton) and Angele LeBlanc (Laura Legere).

The third game saw Yarmouth defeat the host team Pictou Subway Selects 5-1. Scoring for the Mariners was Laura Legere with a hat-trick, Lauren Symonds and Samantha Nutter. Adding assists were Laura Legere (2) and Abby Legere.

The final game of the round robin saw Yarmouth defeat the Halifax Hawks 3-2. Scoring for Yarmouth was Lauren Goudey (Angele LeBlanc), Laura Legere (Lauren Symonds, Lauren Goudey) and Laura Legere (Alex d'Entremont, Payton Doucette).

Lindsey Minard was in net for all of Yarmouth’s games.

Members of the Mariners team also received tournament awards. Laura Legere was named tournament MVP, leading scorer and all-star team forward.

Lindsey Minard was all star team goalie.

The Yarmouth City Drug Store Bantam A Mariners also competed in the provincial skills competition, where the team won five of the six competitions:

• Angele LeBlanc – fastest skater

• Saige Breton – fastest backwards skater

• Abby Legere – shooting accuracy competition

• Laura Legere – show down shooter

• Lindsey Minard – show down goalie

The Mariners are coached by head coach Paul Legere and assistant coaches Mark Muise and Craig Minard. The team roster is: Lauren Symonds, Tori Devine, Abby Legere, Angele LeBlanc, Payton Doucette, Alex d'Entremont, Hallie Moore, Samantha Nutter, Mackenzie Muise, Laura Legere, Saige Breton, Lauren Goudey and Lindsey Minard.

The team has another game in Yarmouth this coming weekend when they play for the league championship against Dartmouth. The championship game is Sunday, April 5 at 5 p.m.
