The Avon View Avalanche are hoping the final weekend of their 2013-14 Valley High School Hockey League season will be as easy as this past one.

The Avalanche outscored Digby and then Middleton by a count of 22-1 in two home games this past weekend.

With all of the dramatic play put forward in recent weeks by the Avalanche, this past weekend was a far cry from it as they demolished the Digby Mariners 9-0 Friday evening, Feb. 14, followed by a 13-1 scalding of the Middleton Monarchs Saturday evening.

Avalanche blanks Mariners 9-0

In Friday's game, the Mariners were without their top three players. With the offensive performance demonstrated by the Avalanche, the three players likely would not have made a huge difference.

The Avalanche staked themselves to 2-0 and 7-0 leads.

Before the second period was five minutes old, goals by Matt Brison, Liam Kelley and Brett Wallace put the Avalanche up 5-0.

Trevor House scored a pair in the second period, Wallace added another in the third period as did Kelley with singles going to Cory Whitney and Ben Orde.

The Avalanche scored three short-handed goals on the evening.

Avon View defeats Middleton 13-1

In Saturday’s home game against Middleton, Tristan Horner recorded a natural hat-trick in the second period while Wallace and House both recorded seven point nights.

Wallace had three goals and four assists while House scored twice and garnered five assists.  Other goal scorers were Whitney, with a pair, and Brison, Jake Lloy and Cole Godfrey.

Upcoming games

The Avalanche play their ninth and final home game of the regular season this Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7:15 p.m. when they square off against the Central Kings Gators.

The Avalanche then hit the road for a pair of games. The first game is Sunday, Feb. 23, in the afternoon against Digby. The other game will be played on the way back when they take on Middleton. This is a rescheduled game due to the snowstorm on the weekend.

The Avalanche need to gain only one point in any of these three games to clinch third place in the league standings.
