It won’t be a winless season for the Kings Mutual Bantam AAA Wildcats after all.
The team earned a 4-3 victory over Truro on Feb. 9 at home in Berwick. Though they had been inching closer to a win of late, Kings Mutual had entered the game 0-27-3 for the NSMBHL regular season.
The Wildcats spotted Truro an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Luke Smith at 4:06 of the first period.
Josh Foster got Kings Mutual on the board at 11:10 for a 1-1 tie after 15 minutes.
Douglas Kosciukiewicz netted the only goal of the second period for a 2-1 Valley lead after two.
The third period saw four goals scored, two by each team. Chandler MacKinnon tied the score for Truro at 9:02, but then the Wildcats struck for a pair of goals.
Jonah Vidito scored at 10:11, a little more than a minute after MacKinnon's goal, to put Valley ahead to stay.
Zachary Forsythe added the eventual game-winner, making it 4-2 with 1:13 left in the period. Truro's Cameron Patton rounded out the scoring at 19:19, but the Kings Mutual squad held on for the win.
Kings Mutual outshot Truro 36-18, with Jack Lynds stopping 32 of 36 shots and Paul Janes turning aside 15 of 18.
The previous evening, the Wildcats dropped a 4-1 decision to Dartmouth Whalers at the Shannon Arena. Jakob McQuillan had the lone Valley goal, scored on the power play, in the second period.
Dartmouth outshot Kings Mutual 27-22, with Oliver Troop stopping 23 of the 27 shots he faced.
