Yarmouth Mariners have 4-2 win over Campbellton Tigers

The Yarmouth Mariners pulled themselves out of a slump with an overdue win at home on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The Mariners defeated the Campbellton Tigers 4-2 at the Mariners Centre.

Yarmouth had opened the scoring at 10:45 in the first period on an unassisted, shorthanded goal by Zack Henry.  Yarmouth held the 1-0 lead throughout the period until Campbellton’s Matthew Gray scored with 28 seconds remaining in the first period.

There was no scoring in the second period.

The Mariners extended their lead to 3-1 on a goal at 3:36 by Colin Campbell (Justin Rasmussen, Josh Desmond) and a power play goal at 13:23 by Danny Wicks (Connor Donaghey, Shawn Boudreau). Campbellton closed the gap to 3-2 at 15:18 on another goal by Gray.  Former Mariner Nick Phillips, now playing for Campbellton, had assists on both goals.

The Mariners put the game out of reach at 19:23 with an empty netter scored by Kyle Campbell (Henry, Billy Hartley), giving the Mariners the 4-2 win.

Zack Henry was named first star of the game and Colin Campbell was named third star. Second star went to Campbellton’s Matthew Gray.

In net for the Mariners Anderson Snair stopped 30 of 32 shots for the win. In net for the Tigers Alexis Paiement stopped 17 of 21 shots in the lose.
