Acadia couldn't stop a short-staffed UPEI squad on home ice Friday night.

The visiting Panthers defeated the Axemen 5-2, thanks in large part to a standout performance in goal from Mavric Parks, who made 47 saves in the win.

A quick, quiet, penalty-free first period ended with a goal from PEI defenceman Reginaldo Traccitto with 40 seconds remaining to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The second period was far busier, beginning with Christopher Owens evening the score on a power play goal five minutes in.  PEI responded with three goals: one from Alex Wall and two from Christopher DeSousa. Tyler Ferry also scored for Acadia, making the tally 4-2 going into the third period.

The Axemen were held to only nine shots in the third period; despite late attempts at putting pressure on Parks, they couldn’t connect with the net. The scoring ended as it began – on a late period goal from Reginaldo Tracccitto, this time into Acadia’s empty net.

Owens, Brett Thompson, Mike Cazzola and Geoff Schemitsch had assists for Acadia. Jordan Mayer, Desousa, Parks, Mason Wilgosh, Nathan McQuaid and Matthew Maione had helpers for UPEI.

Acadia's Evan Mosher stopped 23 in only his fourth loss of the season.

The loss, Acadia’s third in five games, puts the Axemen in second place with a 17-3-3 record. PEI is in fourth at 12-8-3.
