What a difference a day makes.
Just 24 hours after getting blown out 8 – 1 by the Truro Bearcats on Friday night, the Valley Summit Hyundai Junior “A” Wildcats defeated the Dieppe Commandos 5 – 4 in a shootout Jan. 11 in Kentville.
Anthony Cardinal led the way for the Wildcats with two goals. Jean-Marc Evans-Renaud and Jeremy Butterworth added singles for the Wildcats. Both goals were the first goals and first points for Evans-Renaud and Butterworth with the team.
In the shootout, Valley got goals from former Major Midget Wildcat John Deacon, and the game winner in the fifth round from defenceman Erik Campbell, on a spin-o-rama goal that shocked the crowd, and Dieppe goaltender Connor Wilkenson.
Blade Mann-Dixon made 21 saves for his ninth win of the season, plus another four stops in the shootout to seal the win. Although the Commandos fought back to tie the game three times, Valley never trailed.
The Wildcats travel to Yarmouth to face the Mariners on Friday, and host the Bridgewater Lumberjacks next Saturday in Kentville.
