Even after the Yarmouth Mariners acquired two 20-year-old forwards from the Dieppe Commandos on Friday in advance of the MHL’s trade deadline, the Commandos still came out with the 5-4 win over Yarmouth at the Mariners Centre on Jan. 10.
The Commandos broke the 4-4 tie by scoring the winning goal with 33 seconds remaining in the game.
The Mariners had tied the score at 17:39 in the third on a goal by recently reacquired Connor Donaghey on the power play. Donaghey also had an assist in the game, giving him four points since rejoining the Mariners the night before. Donaghey returned to the Mariners from the Q’s Saint John Sea Dogs.
Friday’s trade saw the Mariners pick up Justin Rasmussen and Luke Warner from the Commandos. Rasmussen had a goal and two assists during his first night wearing the Mariners jersey.

The Mariners recent acquisitions prior to the trade deadline included:

With the acquisitions the Mariners did let a player go. Defenceman Nick Phillips was traded in the deal for Rasmussen. The Mariners also gave up the rights to Jack Flinn and Tyler Burns, a second round draft pick in 2015, along with a fifth round pick in 2014, and future considerations. Phillips didn’t spend any time with Dieppe, however, He was quickly moved by Dieppe to Campbellton in another deal.
