CK, Horton face off in Dec. 27 tournament

The Gators took an early lead in their first game against Horton Dec. 27 at the Acadia Arena and were ahead 2-1 at the end of the second period. The annual Horton Memorial high school boys’ hockey tournament (formerly known as the Fred G. Kelly tournament) saw Horton and Central Kings face off at 12:15 p.m., followed by NKEC against Forest Heights at 2 p.m.

The tournament resumes at 6 p.m., with Forest Heights meeting CK, with the opening ceremonies to follow. The final game of the evening is Horton versus NKEC, always a great rivalry.

On Dec. 28, CK and NKEC will kick off the day’s action at 11 a.m., followed by Horton and Forest Heights at 12:45 to close out the round robin.

The top team earns a bye into the final, with the second and third place teams playing off at 4:30 to determine the second team in the final.

A Horton Alumni game will take place between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The tournament all-stars will be recognized starting at 7:45 p.m., followed by the championship game.
