The Gators took an early lead in their first game against Horton Dec. 27 at the Acadia Arena and were ahead 2-1 at the end of the second period. The annual Horton Memorial high school boysâ€™ hockey tournament (formerly known as the Fred G. Kelly tournament) saw Horton and Central Kings face off at 12:15 p.m., followed by NKEC against Forest Heights at 2 p.m.
The tournament resumes at 6 p.m., with Forest Heights meeting CK, with the opening ceremonies to follow. The final game of the evening is Horton versus NKEC, always a great rivalry.
On Dec. 28, CK and NKEC will kick off the dayâ€™s action at 11 a.m., followed by Horton and Forest Heights at 12:45 to close out the round robin.
The top team earns a bye into the final, with the second and third place teams playing off at 4:30 to determine the second team in the final.
A Horton Alumni game will take place between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The tournament all-stars will be recognized starting at 7:45 p.m., followed by the championship game.
