In their second meeting of the season the Valley Wildcats put up a little more of a fight, but the Weeks Crushers still came out on top with a 5-3 victory at home.

Mitchell Deruelle and Jordan McInnis each scored twice for the Crushers, while Devan Tremblay made 25 saves for the win in goal. It was Tremblay’s first start since Nov. 16, which was a 4-1 victory against the Wildcats on the road.

McInnis opened the scoring for the Crushers, just 40 seconds into the game, lifting the puck over former Crushers goaltender Dylan Frank, who had his first game with the Wildcats on Dec. 12.

The Wildcats bounced back with goals by Brandon Weir and Sheehan Kirkwood before the end of the frame to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

McInnis scored his second of the game in the second period, the lone goal, sending the game into the third tied 2-2.

JP Harvey scored his first with Pictou County just 1:07 into the third, but just over five minutes later Weir scored his second for the Wildcats on the power play tie it at threes.

On a two-on-one Deruelle took a pass from Harvey to score 9:33 into the third to take a 4-3 lead for the Crushers.

With 2:29 remaining in regulation the Wildcats took a pair of penalties, which the Crushers capitalize on as Deruelle fired a rocket past Frank to increase their lead and seal the victory.

Frank made 36 saves in the loss.

The Wildcats are at home this weekend. Tonight, they will face off against Amherst in a special community night, where the first 50 people to bring a food bank donation will get in free. On Dec. 14, they will face off against the Crushers again, this time in Kentville. The Dec. 14 game will involve a teddy toss - fans are encouraged to bring a toy for a local children's charity and throw them on the ice when the Wildcats score their first goal.
