MRHS Monarchs Coach Jamie Peppard (standing in background) gets his present-day team ready to meet some MRHS teams of yesteryear in action on Boxing Day in Middleton.
The Middleton and District Arena will once again ring out with the sounds of cheering and playful jeering for the annual Grad Hockey Games. Former players for the old “Blue and Gold” will suit up once again to tangle with the 2013-14 editions of the MRHS Monarchs.
Former Blues Coaches, Adrien Belliveau and Albert Johnson, will have many of their former luminaries in Game 1 action at 5:15 when the Grads of ‘97 to ‘03 take on the Grads of ‘04 to ‘09, led by Peter Harris who will have many of his Provincial Champs from nearly a decade ago roaring to go.
Keith Balcom will have his present day Monarch Girls ready to go for Game 2 at 6:20 as they meet up with the Monarch Girl Grads led by present day assistant coach Nicole Thibault. The Monarch Girls are having a great year as they prepare to host the first ever Provincial Championship hosted by MRHS in late March at their home rink.
Game 3 at 7:25 will see the present day Monarchs, under the tutelage of coaches Jamie Peppard and David Robb, take on the more recent Grads of ‘10 to ‘13. The Monarchs hosted their own tournament in late November and won it all with a 5-0 record, including victories over C.K. and Horton. Bob Gough will guide the Grads.
In the final game of the evening at 8:30, coaches Peppard and Robb will provide the opposition for the present day Monarchs as they don the uniform of the Grads of 1950-96. The present day Monarchs are gearing up for Regionals to be hosted here in Middleton in late February with the right to advance to Provincials.
See you in the Middleton and District Arena on Thursday, December 26 for some great hockey action, meet old friends and make new ones!
