Lucy Lockers South Shore Wild opening regular season game is Saturday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. against the Barrington Ice Dogs.
The Wild are continuing their tradition of giving back to the community, this time to the Lunenburg/Queens Special Olympics team. From left are Betty-Ann Daury, Brian Campbell, Shelly Whynot and Jamie Belong.
To open the season this coming year the Wild continue to give back to the community with 1 dollar from the door going to the Special Olympics. This year we have decided to give a good portion of our game to Queens/ Lunenburg Special Olympics.
Wild VP, Shelly Whynot understands the importance of giving back to the community.
"Although we are a non-profit organization our executive puts in the extra time through-out the entire year to make it possible for our players to play free hockey and to make sure we can raise enough money to be able to give $1 from each ticket sold at the door to community organizations.
"We are excited to be able to help the Special Olympics as we have 11 athletes (four from Queens and seven from Lunenburg) attending the Summer games in 2014 in British Columbia. The cost to send 11 athletes is huge. Each person is acquired to raise a certain amount of money so they are able to attend the games and we are grateful to be able to help."
During the games designated for this fundraiser we will also be giving out profiles of each athlete so our those who attend our games can get to know each athlete going.
The Wild hope to have a great crowd to help them open up the season. They will be having draws on items such as two A1 Pizza Gift Certificates, Oil Change from Carrols Tri- County, Lucy's Locker Gift Certificate, and Walmart Gift Certificate.
