It was a tough week for the Midget Wildcats, who not only had three games to play, but ended up losing two of them.
The Wildcats won their home opener 2-1 over Newbridge Gladiators Sept. 12, then dropped a 5-2 decision to Halifax Sept. 14.
In their third game in four days, Valley was blanked 3-0 by Newbridge, who exacted a little revenge for their opening-night loss.
On Sept. 12, the Wildcats got first-period goals from Mitchell Singer and Michael Dill, then held on for a 2-1 win, thanks to solid goaltending from Michael Pettet, who was especially sharp in the final five minutes and made several key saves.
On Sept. 14, Eli Hughes had both Valley goals in their 5-2 loss to Halifax. Johnny Jones, Ryan MacEachen, Barrett Dachyshyn, Jacob Hickey and Shawn Hubley scored for Halifax, whose final goal was scored into an empty net.
In his first start of the season, goalie Roman Bengert stopped 14 of the 28 shots he faced. Valley had 23 shots on Justin Ritcey, a Wildcat during the 2012-2013 season who is playing this year with Halifax.
Game statistics were not available for the Valley-Newbridge game Sept. 15, which ended with the Gladiators scoring a 3-0 win.
The Wildcats were scheduled to play twice on the road this week, Sept. 18 against Halifax at the Forum and Sept. 21 in Dartmouth against Newbridge, before returning home to face Cole Harbour in a 2:15 p.m. start Sept. 22 in Berwick.
