Game 2 being held Thursday, Feb. 23

The Avon View Avalanche Sr. Boys hockey team, with the exception of one power-play, looked out of their league against King’s-Edgehill School Feb. 16 in the first game of the two-game total-goal series for the Fred Lynch Cup.

The game started with Matt Page, of the Avalanche, taking a solid hit at the Kings blue line and AVHS defenseman Mike Lawrence playing a great play by laying down his stick and stopping a 2-on-1 by KES.

This was about as good as it was going to be for the Avalanche, who saw Matt Lahey slammed hard into the boards just a minute or so before KES player Seth Brison let a shot rip, which Brandon Wile stopped.

The story of the game was the four short-handed goals scored by King’s-Edgehill, two of them by Isaac Bridge with Brett Bittner and John Mason scoring the others. Mason had two goals on the evening to mark the large offensive show. Seth Brison, of Falmouth, was also a marksman for KES. Joel Young, also from Falmouth, played a solid game on defense collecting four assists.

Avalanche defenseman Dylan Lowthers let one go from the blue line, which made its way through a maze of players and went high to the Kings’ goaltender's left-hand side. This was the Avalanche's only goal of the game.

King’s-Edgehill outshot AVHS 37-30, including 14-7 in the third period when they really mounted a sustained attack against the Avalanche.

Despite outshooting Kings 10-8 in the opening period, the Avalanche had few real scoring chances. Kings outshot Avon View 15-13 in the second period and led 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Game 2 in this two-game total-goal series will be played Feb. 23 7:30 p.m. at the Hants Exhibition Arena.
