Residents of the Canning and district jumped into action and contributed to a clean-up recently on the former Cornwallis District High School lands in Canning.

A special nod goes out to the youth who assisted in the clean-up: Izra Fitch, Jaden Keizer and Riley Fitch. The Canning and District Trails Committee organized the clean-up Saturday, Oct. 4. The committee is in the process of developing trails on a portion of this piece of property.

Participants in the clean-up were treated to Tim Hortons coffee and timbits to get them moving first thing in the morning. The Village of Canning provided water, pop and chips for snacks throughout the day. Cochrane’s Pharmasave in Canning provided gloves for the event and the Department of Transportation loaned the crew safety vests and signage for the road.

Clean Nova Scotia, through the “Great Nova Scotia Pick-Me-Up”, provided garbage and blue bags and assisted with a checklist and safety tips for the event. Valley Waste Resource Management collected the many bags of garbage, along with tires, pieces of steel, spray cans, an old refrigerator, and other large items.

If you would like more information on the trails or would like to become involved with the Committee, contact Kelly Lee, Canning and District Recreation Director, 582-2033. - Submitted
