Dear Editor:
I am the coach of the Glace Bay Miners Bantam Female hockey team that attended the Western Valley Early Bird Tournament October 27-29. Some late confusion got our schedule in a knot to start, but the tournament organizers, especially Patty and John Perrot, bent over backwards to include us in the event. The hockey was great and the service we received everywhere we went, from the Annapolis Royal Inn, Charlie's Restaurant, and the End of the Line was first rate and very accommodating; a real credit to the Valley community. We even caught a glimpse of the harbour whale in the river!
I want to make special mention of Sport Swappers in Wilmot. One of our girls, getting ready for her first tournament game ever, realized she had left her skates at home. Between games we drove to Sport Swappers in hopes of buying a used pair for the weekend. Upon hearing our plight, the staff fitted our player and loaned the skates free of charge. They even trusted us to leave them with the tournament organizers for return after we left town! This generosity made the weekend for one young lady and impressed the entire team.
Thank you for a memorable weekend. We may have won silver in the tournament, but we were treated like gold!
