The Shelburne County Wilson’s Reds.

The Shelburne County Wilson’s Reds won two games in recent exhibition baseball action.  On Aug. 17 the Reds edged the Weymouth Intermediate Firebirds 4-3 at Gateway Park in Yarmouth.  Starting pitcher Zack Nickerson and Andy Bradley combined for the win on the bump.  Oliver Harding drove in the winning run on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete the victory.

The Reds then captured their second victory of the week with a 5-4 come from behind victory over a combination Foggies squad, made up of bantam, midget and intermediate players.  Riley Duggan got the mound win in relief.  Tanner Bateman had two singles to pace the offense, including the walk-off, two run single in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Trevor Fehr added a double and a single for the victors.  Dallas Donaldson took the loss in relief for the Foggies, while Kale Krafve picked up an RBI single at the plate.

This gives the Reds a 24-5 season record.  The locals were travelling to Kentville as the paper went to press, for their final two games in preparation of the upcoming Nova Scotia Bantam “AA” Provincial Championships, hosted by the Reds on August 29-31, at the Roger Grovestine Recreation Complex in Shelburne.

“Our team has had a great summer thus far.  The boys have been working hard to get ready for the upcoming provincial tournament.  Any of the five teams that will be here could win if they are on their game” said Reds Coach Andrew Holland.  “We have been practising and playing a lot to give ourselves the best chance to succeed.”

The winner of this tournament advances to the Atlantic championships on September 13-15, hosted by the Yarmouth Gateways.
