The Yarmouth #2 peewee baseball team turned out to be the #1 team at the recent peewee R southern districts held in Liverpool.

The team captured gold at the district tournament that was held Aug. 6-8 and will now compete at provincials in Dartmouth the weekend of Aug. 20-22.

Although on paper they are part of their respective minor baseball house leagues, seven teams competed at the peewee “R” southern district tournament in Liverpool. The other teams were Yarmouth #1, Barrington, Shelburne, Liverpool, Lockeport and Clarks Harbour.

The Yarmouth #2 squad lost its first game of the tournament but won both its games on day two to put it in the semi-final with Liverpool on the final day. Yarmouth was the victor over the Liverpool team that until that point, had not lost a game during its season.

That semi-final win put Yarmouth into provincials. A subsequent game against Barrington determined the placing of the top two district teams. With Yarmouth winning that game it came out of the districts ranked first.

Game MVPs for Yarmouth #2 during the tournament were Jordan Nickerson, William Crowell, Quinten Johnson, Cameron Wallace and Connor Colquhoun.

Aside from Yarmouth and Barrington, the other teams competing in peewee R provincials are Woodside, Bedford, Halifax, Springhill and Port Hawkesbury.
