The Yarmouth Red Knights' reign as Over 35 national baseball champions is over.

The Red Knights lost in the championship game to the Cadogan Nitehawks 7-6 in Burnaby, B.C.

Yarmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings and was in control of the game. From there the tide turned in favour of the team from Alberta.

“Kind of the wheels fell off," said Rick Clayton of the Red Knights. "We made all kinds of mental mistakes.”

The frustrating thing about baseball is that when mistakes start to come, they tend to come in bunches. Clayton said after the third inning it seemed like nothing could go right for the team.

Cadogan jumped on Yarmouth for five runs to make it 5-3 and, despite their best efforts, Yarmouth could get no closer than 7-6.

“Basically we beat ourselves,” said Clayton. “We were definitely the best team on the field but that’s not always who wins.”

The team travels back to Nova Scotia tomorrow and Clayton said most of the team would be back in Yarmouth by late Tuesdsay evening.

This is very late to make a response to the article and comments submitted by Rick Clayton of the Yarmouth Red Knights in losing the national baseball tilte but i must say something. I play for the Cadogan Nitehawks who did beat them. I will agree they made a few mistakes but Rick fails to mention that they never had a earned run in the entire game. A 2nd inning dropped flyball led to there 3 runs and a lucky foul ball hitting a grass edge when it was 5ft foul led to the rest of there runs. Yarmouth was out hit, out ran and had poorer defense throughout the game so can't believe that Rick had the balls to say they were clearly the better team. They had good pitching to carry that team and from what i seen they lived and died by there pitching, maybe the only thing they were better at. It makes for a good story but most definately not the way the game played out
