Gateways finish first in standings, winning streak up to 12

The Yarmouth Pub Gateways took both ends of a doubleheader from the Shelburne County Schooners over the weekend, extending their winning streak to 12 games and finishing the regular season atop the standings of the Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League.

The Yarmouth team will take part in the league’s playoff tournament Aug. 23-24 in Noel Road.

The Gateways wrapped up their 2014 regular-season schedule Saturday, Aug. 16, in Shelburne, where they defeated the Schooners 10-0 and 12-2.

Tristan Reede pitched a complete-game three-hitter in the first game, striking out seven.

Offensively for Yarmouth, Julian Dease, Scott Jeffery, Russ Grant and Tim Clayton had multi-hit efforts, Clayton belting a two-run home run.

In the second game Damian Reede pitched five innings, allowing just two hits, to pick up the win. Tim Clayton pitched the last two innings.

It was a balanced attack for Yarmouth, all starting players contributing at least a hit.

Yarmouth finished the regular season with a record of 18 wins and four losses, best in the league. The Gateways closed out the campaign with a dozen straight wins.
