Junior Lifeguards competing at the Junior Lifeguard Championships at Rissers beach on July 26.
The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service (NSLS) is running a junior lifeguard program at Port Maitland Beach.
This free program is for youth between the ages of seven and 15 who can swim at least 25 metres and tread water for two minutes. Junior lifeguards spend time each week learning and practicing both physical and technical skills with the local lifeguards.
“This is a great program for kids who love the water, but who want more than swimming lessons,” says Emily Hickey, beach captain at Port Maitland Beach. “It gives young aspiring guards the chance to learn about first aid and water safety in a friendly, yet competitive environment.”
The Junior Lifeguard Program takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. If you are interested in enrolling your child in the junior lifeguard program contact Emily Hickey by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone at 902-742-2427.
