Athletic students participating in the Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP) at Avon View High School received recognition for their contribution to sports. Avon View's athletes were feted earlier this month at a banquet held in their honour.

Each sports team presented awards to their top contributors, and every athlete was recognized for their participation.

Avon View fielded 26 sports teams in 2013-14, for everything from badminton and baseball to track and field, rugby and wrestling.

The following recipients received the major awards presented this year.

Mark O'Reilly received the Male Athlete of the Year award, as well as the rugby award for top rookie plus coaches awards for basketball and soccer.

Sam Lake received the Female Athlete of the Year award. She also won the soccer heart leadership award and took home the girls' hockey MVP honours.
