SMBA junior boys capture softball bronze

The SMBA junior boys are bronze medal winners after finishing third at the regional softball tournament May 28.

St. Mary’s Bay Academy junior boys’ softball team finished the season by capturing the bronze medal at the regional playoffs.

The junior Stingrays edged Drumlin Heights Eagles 21-20 to take third in regionals held at the Weymouth Cricket Field on Wednesday.

The Stingrays took a commanding seven run lead into the top of the seventh inning, but the Eagles’ bats got hot for nine runs to slip ahead, 20-18.

SMBA answered in the bottom of the seventh with three runs to capture the bronze.

Gage Comeau drove in the winning run. Graham Cromwell went four for four with four runs and Dawson Hill went three for four with six runs batted in.

SMBA lost its first game of the regional tournament earlier in the day, falling 12-6 to the Barrington Barons.

Both teams were tied at four after four innings, but Barrington had a four-run fifth inning and a three-run sixth.

Barrington had three home runs in the win.
