Annapolis West Education Centre’s rugby team has advanced to the B Regional championships with an overtime win over Digby Regional.

Digby wasn’t even supposed to be in the playoffs after forfeiting most of their season due to field problems but were nonetheless given an elimination game against AWEC on Tuesday, May 27.

Digby was determined not to waste the oppostunity and came out of the first half up 7-5.

But AWEC came storming back in the second and ran in two straight tries with one conversion to go ahead 17-7.

Digby answered with two tries, then AEC scored again to make it 22-17 nearing the end of the game.

Digby had two tries called back in the dieing minutes –one because it was touched down on an AWEC foot and not the ground.

And then with only seconds left in regulation time, Travis Cromwell powered through the AWEC line to tie up 22-22.

AWEC made no mistake with their first possession and worked the ball upfield til Zach Morgan could dash in for the win 27-22 AWEC.

Stuart Ashton and Brandon Milner also scored a try each for AWEC. Logan Wombolt had two tries and two-point conversion.

Travis Cromwell , Dan Ford, Sam MacQuarrie and Barrett Olsen all scored tries for Digby and LeBlanc kicked the two points.

AWEC now advances to the Regionals against Horton in Horton on Tuesday, June 3 at 5:30 p.m.
