The Ashdale Eagles are the inaugural champions of the first Avon View Avalanche High School Boys’ Ball Hockey Championship Tournament.

The daylong fundraiser was held at the local high school May 24.

The championship team consisted of Nick Parker, Brandon Parker, Jeremy Parker, Carter Swain, and Michael Dill. They went 3-2 in a six-team round robin and defeated Peter MacDougall's team, who also went 3-2, in the tournament semi-final. They went on to defeating Brandon Ross' team from Falmouth in overtime in the championship game.

Entering the championship game, the Falmouth team finished 4-1.

The other three tournament entries who failed to make the playoff round were Steve Swinamer's unit, Team Kelley, and a fired up minor hockey team known as the Road Sharks. The Road Sharks, which featured Zach Eldridge and Davey Whitehead, defeated the Eagles in overtime in one of the tournament's round-robin games.

The Avalanche hockey team hopes to make the ball hockey tournament an annual fundraiser.
