LeBlanc leads Clare swimmers at Halifax meet

Mattea LeBlanc swam to four first place finishes to lead her team of six swimmers from Les Aquadiens de Clare in the Nike Junior Development meet in Halifax on May 4.

LeBlanc, 14, claimed the red ribbons in the 200- meter individual medley, 200-m breaststroke, 100-m butterfly and 400-m freestyle, as well as managing best times in these four events.

Nick Theriault, 15, had first place finishes in 400-m freestyle and 200-m breaststroke, as well as a second in the 50-m breaststroke. Theriault managed best times in both breaststroke events.

Joel Comeau, 11, was seventh in the 200-m breaststroke and fourth in the 50-m breaststroke, producing personal best times in both events.

Raianne McNeil, 16, improved her times in the 200-m individual medley, 100-m freestyle, 50-m breaststroke, and the 50-m butterfly.

Chloe Theriault, 15, also managed best times in her 50-m butterfly, 200-m individual medley and 50-m breaststroke, but tired on her 100-m backstroke.

Mackenzie Saulnier, 13, produced personal bests in the 50-m butterfly, 100-m freestyle, 200-m individual medley and the 400-m freestyle.

Team coach Moira Brown said that out of 22 swims, the Clare swimmers managed 18 best times.

“I’m well satisfied with their efforts and attitude as they gain more experience with the opportunities at each meet,” she said.

The development meet was hosted by the Halifax Trojans swim club at the Dalplex pool.

The next competition for these swimmers will be the Junior Provincials held in Shearwater on May 18.
