Acadia Axemen head coach Steve Baur announced March 26 the commitment of Winnipeg resident Ben Miller to the Axemen for this coming fall.
Describing Miller, a six-foot-three guard from Westgate Mennonite Collegiate, as "a special talent," Baur feels his athleticism and leadership qualities "will fit well" into the Axemen team profile.
Miller has provincial team experience, and represented Manitoba at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Que. He is also a past winner of the Manitoba AAA Player of the Year award.
This past season, he averaged 22 points per game for Westgate, with a season high of 46 points. In its recent annual poll of high school players, the Winnipeg Sun voted Miller the top boys' high school player in the province.
Miller, who was sought after and highly recruited, says a visit to Acadia in person sold him on the school, both in academic, athletic and community terms.
"I was looking for a place where I could play on a successful team, somewhere I would improve as a basketball player and as a student, and somewhere I would feel confortable calling home," he said.
