Spirits were high at Kingston’s Credit Union Centre March 8 as members of the public gathered at the arena to learn which communities were selected to take part in the Kraft Hockeyville national contest. And when they learned they made the cut, the place went crazy.
And they aren't the only Nova Scotia rink celebrating. Also making the cut of the Final 16 across the nation is the Amherst Stadium, in Amherst, N.S.
The Final 16 rinks are divided into two groups. The Top East bracket and the Top West Bracket.
Aside from the arenas in Kingston and Amherst, the other arenas in the East Top 8 are in Richmond, Ontario; Prescott, Ontartio; Beeton, Ontario; Exeter, Ontario; Chicoutimi, Quebec and Bedeque, Prince Edward Island.
All will receive $25,000 for making the first round of voting.
Voting is open now and continues until Monday at 12:59 a.m. Atlantic Time when the list will be reduced to four - two from the east and two from the west. The four finalists will each receive $50,000.
The ultimate winning community hosts an NHL game next fall and receives $100,000.
