Hockey Axemen second in latest CIS rankings

Acadia took the AUS semifinal series in four games with a 3-2 victory over Moncton March 2.

The Acadia hockey Axemen are the number-two team in the Canadian Interuniversity Top-10, up from third place last week, according to the latest national rankings released Tuesday, March 4.

The Axemen were rewarded for defeating the Moncton Aigles Bleus three games to one in their Atlantic University Hockey Conferencce playoff semifinal.

Acadia will meet the Saint Mary's Huskies in the conference final, with the first two games of the best-of-five series set for Thursday and Friday at Acadia Arena.

The Huskies upset the number-two-ranked UNB Varsity Reds, the defending CIS champions, three games to one in the other semifinal.

Saint Mary's was sixth in this week's rankings, while UNB fell from second to seventh. Moncton, ranked ninth last week, fell out of the top-10 with their loss to Acadia. The Alberta Golden Bears continued to hold the number-one spot.
