Bantam Wildcats drop playoff opener

The Kings Mutual bantam Wildcats dropped the first game of their Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League first-round playoff series with the Bedford Barons.

In a game played Saturday, March 1 in Berwick, Bedford skated to a 4-0 win over the Wildcats. Keegan Gauthier led the Barons with a pair of goals, one of them shorthanded, and Brendan Hirtle and Lukasz Kolanko combined for the shutout.

Paul Janes turned in a yeoman performance in the Wildcats’ net, facing 49 shots and stopping all but four.

Game two of the best-of-three series is scheduled for Saturday, March 8 at 7 p.m. in Bedford. If a third game is required, it would be played Sunday, March 9, also in Bedford, at a time still to be determined.
