There is a new but recognizable face in the position of assistant to the director of recreation for the Municipality of Shelburne.

Adam Dedrick grew up in the Sandy Point and has been coaching and active in the sports community for years.

“I have always been involved in sports and volunteering,” said Dedrick.  “This job fit with me exactly.”

He has spent the last few years in Halifax but after a while realized it was much more rewarding being a part of the growth of his own community.

“I missed being apart of a smaller community,” he said.

His position will continue the organization throughout the year planning activities, events and programing for the community including providing leadership, applying for grants and operating an equipment-lending program.

“A lot of the time we have great programs,” he said. “We just have to try to find great leaders to match to those programs and provide support and training.”

He said he plans to focus on physical literacy in children and youth.

“Children need to get outside to play,” he said.  “Manage screen time and play a sport to build confidence and skills they will use throughout their lives.”
