The Fusion U-15 volleyball club struck gold at Digby’s Crossfire Tier II U-16 Invitational Volleyball Tournament with a win in two sets over the Sackville Sonics U-15 at DRHS on Feb. 22.

Fusion U-16 Tier II and Sonics U-16 Tier II rounded out the five team tournament with the Fusion U-15 going undefeated in six matches.

Fusion coach Claudette Deveau of Tusket said each team played round robin with the two Fusion teams meeting in the first crossover match followed by the two Sonics teams facing each other in the second crossover.

“Fusion U-15 won in two sets and Sackville U-15 won in three sets to advance to the gold medal game,” said Deveau.

Fusion prevailed 25-12 and 25-17 to win the championship. The host team was winless in the tournament.

Deveau said the girls are excited about volleyball and they communicate and play well together.

“This U-15 team played so well at the tournament,” said Deveau. “They are an enthusiastic group of girls who love to play volleyball and it is a pleasure to coach a team like that.”

Deveau said there are 10 Fusion teams in the Yarmouth-based club with athletes from Digby to Pubnico.

“We have nine girls’ teams and one boys’ team which makes it the biggest volleyball club in the province,” she said. “We have nine girls’ teams; four U-14 teams, one U-15, two U-16 teams, two U-18 teams and one U-16 boys’ team.”
