The Summit Hyundai Valley midget AAA Wildcats got the post-Christmas portion of their NSMMHL season off to a positive start with a 3-0 shutout of the South Shore Mustangs Dec. 28 in Bridgewater.
The victory improved the Wildcats’ season record to 15 wins and nine losses, along with three overtime losses and a pair of shootout losses, for 35 points, good for fourth in the eight-team Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.
Goalie Mike Pettet returned to the Valley lineup after missing time before Christmas due to a concussion, and stopped all 31 shots aimed his way to earn the shutout.
Brett Tidman led the Wildcats offensively with a pair of goals, and Michael Dill had two assists.
The game was the first for the Wildcats since they added Drake Batherson to their lineup following his return from school in Ontario.
Batherson, who will remain with the Wildcats for the rest of the season, made his presence felt right away, scoring a pretty power play goal in the second period.
The Wildcats were scheduled to travel to Port Hood for a pair of weekend games with the Cape Breton West Islanders, Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 5 at noon.
