The sixth annual Boxing Day 5k turkey run took place Thursday at 10 a.m. in Yarmouth. The run started and finished at the Tim Hortons train station location on Main Street.

Runners ran south from Tim Hortons along Main Street to Brown Street, then down the hill to Water Street, north to Richards Lane, up the hill to Main Street and repeated the loop, finishing on Water Street in the West Nova Fuels parking lot.

The annual event is open to runners and walkers. The only restriction is, participants cannot pull push or ride upon an object, with the exception of a wheelchair or a motorized scooter, in accordance with RCMP regulations.

The first 175 registered participants were to receive a tuber with a turkey run design, which could be worn as a headband.

Adults paid a $25 fee. Students $15. There was a $65 family rate. The fee includes race support, water, draw prizes and a hot breakfast.

Proceeds go toward the Megan Corkum Athletic Fund.
