Lockeport Greenwave wins junior boys' Christmas tourney

The Lockeport Greenwave brought home the banner from the 2013 BMHS Junior Boys Christmas Basketball Tournament on Dec. 21.

Lockeport took out the Shelburne Rebels 81-50 in the championship tilt. Cody Cotter racked up 33 points to lead the Greenwave, picking up the Player of the Game award. Also leading Lockeport on the scoreboard was Austin Buchanan with 20 points and Keithen Dash, 18. For the Rebels Drew Jacklyn posted 25 markers, with 18 from Daniel Slack. Ryan Hardy was named Player of the Game for Shelburne.

New Germany defeated Bluenose Academy 49-46 in a close, hard fought battle to take third place. Leading the Saints were Player of the Game Jonathan Oickle with 15 points and Jordan Publicover, 11. For Bluenose, Player of the Game honours went to Jared Powell.

In the fifth place game, Barrington defeated Maple Grove 46-32. Kirt Brannen led the Baron with 21 points while Harmon Grimshaw-Surette led the Panthers with 11. Player of the Game Awards went to Connor Trask for Maple Grove and Owen Symonds from Barrington.

The two day tournament was well-supported by friends and family from all of the teams, said Barons’ Coach Mike Scott. The Gift Card Christmas Tree was won by Clark Dixon, Woods Harbour.
