The Acadia football Axemen weren’t down for long.
The Axemen broke into the win column in a big way Sept. 21 at St. F.X., scoring a 40-11 win to improve their season record to 1-2.
It was the first loss of the regular season for St. F.X., which began the game 2-0.
After a mistake- and penalty-filled first half ended with Acadia on top 10-8, the Axemen outscored their hosts 30-3 after the intermission and cruised to victory.
Acadia opened the scoring on their first drive of the game, with Evan Brown connecting with first-year receiver Sebastian Robinson on his first of two touchdowns.
Kicker Ryan Begin rounded out Acadia’s first-half scoring with a 34-yard field goal.
Begin started off the second half with a rouge, which kicked off 22 straight Acadia points.
Tristan Hercules scored on a 29-yard pass, Thomas Troop on a six-yard run, Robinson his second of the game on a 19-yard pass and Brett Backman on a 64-yard interception return with just 1:42 remaining.
It was the third interception of the game for Backman for a total of 95 yards gained, and the first interception return for a touchdown of his four-year Acadia career.
Brown completed 14 of 25 passes for 221 yards, Troop rushed eight times for 60 yards, and Taylor Renaud (three catches, 54 yards) was Acadia’s top receiver.
