The Western Kings Active Kids Healthy Kids Committee is offering all community groups, organizations and individuals the opportunity to attend a workshop on how to build an outdoor rink.

The workshop will be held on Jan. 22 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Municipality of Kings building in the Orchards Room (downstairs).  The building is located on 87 Cornwallis Street, Kentville.

The workshop is intended for anyone interested in building an outdoor rink for their community, neighbourhood or in their backyard. Some of the topics include site selection, materials, construction, maintenance, weather considerations and tips and tricks from an expert in the field of ice making.

Bill Cruickshank will host the workshop. Cruickshank is the general manager for Nustadia Recreation Inc., who manages the BMO Centre in Bedford. He also maintains the Emera Oval ice surface in Halifax. Cruickshank has conducted numerous workshops around the Province

Participants are asked to bring appropriate outdoor clothing, as part of the workshop may take place outdoors. The workshop is an excellent opportunity to develop the skills needed to build an outdoor rink and bring and favourite pastime back to your local community.
