What may be the world’s oldest hockey stick will be on display Jan. 19 at the Canadian Tire in Greenwood Jan. 19.

Mark Presley will be bringing the artifact, known as the Moffat Stick, to the store between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to raise money for Canadian Tires’ JumpStart program.

Dating back to the 1830s, the Cape Breton-carved stick is a rare example of the evolution of the game, Presley said.

“I was just fascinated by the history,” store manager Debbie Parks said. “We’re hoping people will be intrigued by the stick and come in.”

Freewill donations for the JumpStart, which funds children’s sports and recreation across the country, will be accepted.

For more on Presley’s stick and other local appearances, see the Jan. 22 edition of the Kings County Advertiser.
