Rugby X-Women take 64-0 win over Axewomen

St. FX women’s top-ranked rugby team continued to win with a 64-0 win over Acadia Friday night.

The undefeated X-Women dominated the first 40 minutes of the game, scoring 54 points on 10 trys and two conversions. However, the Axewomen limited the visiting squad to two trys in the second half and the lowest score of their 2012 season.

In their previous match up this season, St. FX beat Acadia 90-0.

The Subway players of the game were winger Amanda Thornborough, who scored three trys for the X-women, and Acadia winger Maddie MacKenzie .

Two 2012 Horton High grads made an appearance on Raymond Field.   Natalie Silver, Canning, played for Acadia during the last three minutes of the game and Wolfville’s Ashley Brooker played the second half for the X-Women.

Acadia travels to UPEI to play the Panthers Sunday to wrap up the regular season.

The Axewomen will face the Saint Mary’s Huskies Oct. 27 in Antigonish for Atlantic University Sport semi-final play with the championship game the following day. St. FX hosts the CIS finals Nov. 1 to 4.
