Winning weekend for Tier 1 soccer squads

The Jan. 3-4 weekend was a positive one for Valley United Tier 1 soccer teams. Every squad that played won its match.

The U-14 boys stood second in their division with a 6-1-1 record entering play this past weekend following a 2-0 shutout of Scotia Jan. 3 in Kentville. Tylar Graves and Logan McNeill scored the Valley goals. Dryden Gould earned the shutout.

After their first eight games of the indoor schedule, the U-14 boys had scored 45 goals and allowed just two.

The U-14 girls moved into a three-way tie for first in their division with a 5-1-2 record after a 9-0 win over Scotia, also Jan. 3 in Kentville.

Tessa Fudge had three goals and Jessica Shaffelburg, Emily Nickerson and Mackenzie Pardy two apiece. Keeper Emily Terry earned her fourth shutout of the season. The U-14 girls had scored 21 goals and allowed five in their first eight games.

The Valley U-16 boys were alone in first in their division at 7-1-1 following a 4-1 victory over Dartmouth United Jan. 3 in Kentville.

U-14 call-up Corey Cadeau scored a pair of goals with Keifer Levy and Matt Sharpe netting singles. The U-16 boys had allowed six goals while scoring 31 in their first nine games.

The U-16 girls eked out a 2-1 win over Highland Jan. 3 in Kentville to improve to 6-1-1, good for sole possession of top spot in the Red Division standings. Madeline Kennie and Kinsella Noseworthy-Smith had the tallies and Vanessa Robertson was solid in goal.

After eight games, the U-16 girls had scored 14 goals and allowed the opposition seven.

The Valley U-18 girls also picked up an impressive win, outscoring Forest Hills 6-1 Jan. 3 in Kentville to improve to 2-2-1 on the season, good for fifth in their division.

Chantal S. Landry and Lauren Landry each had a pair of goals while Brittany Green and Chantal M. Landry had single markers for the U-18 girls, who had scored 13 goals and allowed eight over their first five matches of the season.

Senior A action update

In senior A action, both the Kings Arms men’s team and the Valley senior A women were also victorious in their most recent games prior to this past weekend.

The senior men edged the provincial Canada Games team 2-1 Dec. 28 in Halifax to improve to 3-5 on the season and move into fourth place in their division.

Tye Borden and James Nunn had the goals as Kings Arms won its second straight game after starting the season 1-5. The senior men, who did not see action on the Jan. 3-4 weekend, also evened their goals for and against at 18 apiece.

The Valley senior women also didn’t play on the Jan. 3-4 weekend, but remained undefeated (at 5-0) and unscored-upon (32 goals for, none against) so far in the season.

That record left the senior women second in their division with 15 points, four behind Scotia Toros (6-1-1) wth three games in hand.

All seven Valley Tier 1 teams were in action this past weekend, with three of the games set for the indoor facility in Kentville.
